The latest in this series of music-themed portraits, this time depicting one of my all-time favourite female artists - 80s era Madonna.
I've liked a fair amount of Madonna's studio work post-80s, but there's something about those early Madonna records I played to death as a kid that has never left me. Lucky Star, Holiday, Borderline, Dress You Up, Angel and Into The Groove all have a special place in my heart.
Madonna is also one of very few artists who has managed to do interesting work beyond her initial period of popularity, regardless of changing trends in looks and sounds over the last three decades.
I have never rated her as a singer per se, with a great live voice, but have always liked her studio work. I wouldn't say that she has many classic albums, but she has an astounding back catalogue of great and classic singles, some of the best pop music ever recorded. In my opinion, of course.
This drawing took on a life of its own and I could have worked on it endlessly. Again I think I'm getting rather carried away with all of the rendering and line work, especially in light of the fact this is only part of a larger piece. However, I've actually enjoyed doing this a great deal, and that's the main thing.
As with the others, I'm unsure as to whether this is a successful depiction, that's for others to decide. I can only hope I have gone some way to doing her visage some justice.
