Here is another in this series of music-related sketches, this time depicting an enduring inspiration, both in music and life, Chuck D of Public Enemy.
Chuck was the first artist to really make me think about myself at a young age, and his work encouraged me to read and study about things I would not have done otherwise. He is also one of very few hip-hop artists who has remained consistent in his message and worldview.
His body of work is so strong and he is completely underrated as an MC, when he is one of the best to ever hold a mic. The voice, patterns, stage presence and content - the man has it all!
My love for PE, particularly the first four albums has never dimmed, that signature Bomb Squad sound still resonating all these years later. I've been to see PE four times in my life, some of the best live hip-hop show I've ever seen.
Drawing this was a bit torturous as I would always want to depict the man in a way that was worthy of what he has meant to me. Whether I have done that or not is for others to decide.
